Comprehensive Vascular Lab
At DVVI, we offer a comprehensive non-invasive vascular lab within our center. That means all vascular testing including ultrasound exams are performed on site. Patients do not need a referral to an outside hospital or imaging center.
Vascular exams are performed by our highly-experienced sonographers certified in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
The non-invasive vascular lab at DVVI offers:
Ankle- Brachial Index (ABI)
- Performed by measuring blood pressure at the ankle and in the arm while a person is at rest. The index is calculated by dividing the systolic blood pressure at the ankle by the systolic blood pressure in the arm
- Used to screen and predict the severity of peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
- Used to see how well a treatment is working (such as medical treatment, an exercise program, angioplasty, or surgery)
Treadmill ABI
- An exercise stress test in which the blood pressure measurements are repeated at both sites after a few minutes of walking on a treadmill.
- Can detect a significant drop in blood flow, indicating a narrowing or blockage within an artery, that a resting ABI may not detect
Venous Ultrasound
Lower extremity:
- Venous insufficiency/ varicose veins
- Acute or chronic deep venous thrombosis (DVT)
- Venous stasis/ ulcer
Upper extremity:
- Mapping for dialysis fistula or graft planning
- Acute or chronic DVT
- Compression syndromes such as thoracic outlet syndrome
Abdominal and pelvic:
- Inferior vena cava/ renal veins
- Male varicoceles
- Pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS)
- Compression syndromes such as May-Thurner Syndrome
Arterial Ultrasound
Lower extremity:
- Peripheral arterial disease
- Arterial insufficiency/ non-healing ulcer
- Peripheral aneurysm
- Vasculitis/ autoimmune disease
Upper extremity:
- Carotid disease/stroke
- Vertebrobasilar insufficiency
- Compression syndromes such as thoracic outlet syndrome
- Vasculitis/ autoimmune disease
Abdominal and pelvic:
