This procedure extracts excessive peritoneal fluid (ascites) in the abdomen. We use a paracentesis needle to collect the ascitic fluid for testing or relief of abdominal distension and discomfort. The procedure is pain free and can address respiratory difficulties or ascitic pain. Large-volume peritoneal drainage is also provided by using an indwelling peritoneal catheter.
